Chosen charity & why?
Midwifery With Altitude. Following a passion to help childbearing mothers in the Himalayan Plateau, my Mother has set up this worthwhile charity. Through small changes that fit with Himalayan culture, their work has made a difference to many families in this poor region and has saved babies lives.
Why did you decide to run the MdS?
I was looking for a fresh challenge, something I didn't know if I could complete or not. I am excited by both the mental and the physical battle that I will face, and am always keen to visit new places. Plus, it seemed like a good idea at the time...!
Have you ever done anything like this before?
The furthest I have run is the Trailwalker Challenge that is 100km along the South Downs. Walking the next day was emotional so I'm not sure how I'll persuade the legs to go again on the MdS!
What do your family & friends think?
They all think that I'm crazy... But my husband Clive did it successfully in 2000, and he has been an inspiration(?) to me.
What's the furthest you've ever run?
100km (with breaks for jelly babies!)
What's your fastest marathon time?
2 hours 47 minutes 45 seconds in the Amsterdam Marathon, 2007.
How did you first get into running?
After joining the Army, it became part of everyday life for me.
What are you most looking forward to?
The unknown. I don't know how I will feel or how well my body will cope. Being in such a different environment will also be fascinating, just hope I can look around me and appreciate it through all the sweat!
What are you most concerned about?
Getting an injury and not being able to complete the race.
What will you miss most?
Sleeping in a bed! Also sharing the running experience with my husband Clive - although I don't think he'll miss doing it a second time...
What one item of luxury will you sneak into your pack?
Toothbrush and toothpaste, the feeling of clean teeth is worth every gram!
What's the first thing you'll do afterwards?
Take off the "house on my back", and then give Clive, my Mum and my Dad a big hug! (All who are flying out to join me at the finish line)
Who inspires you?
My mother - she has so much energy, motivation, selfless commitment, focus, love and enthusiasm for everything. And my father - he is her rock.
